EFTUnited Advisory Council: Our Story

At the end of October we, sixteen highly qualified EFT Practitioners which group included a number of EFT Masters and other expert trainers, came together in Santa Rosa, California. Our original purpose was to give our input into the new EFT Universe certification. We all believe in the quality and availability of EFT training and certification worldwide, and we were looking forward to harmonizing all our years of experience.

We then received the following correspondence from Gary Craig in an email:

“…some people have mistakenly assumed that I am endorsing the EFTuniverse.com website, its certification program, etc.  This is not so.  I am not endorsing anyone’s website or EFT efforts.  I merely allowed EFTuniverse.com to house many of the articles and relative content from the emofree.com website.  This was because of substantial public demand and for no other reason.  I did it as a service to the EFT community and Dawson Church agreed to undertake the substantial financial and logistical burden involved.  However, the success or failure of that website and its various programs belong to Dawson and I claim no credit or involvement regarding its future.

Again, I have retired. I have freely given EFT to the world and am no longer involved. Please respect that and kindly leave my name out of any EFT issues … pro or con.  Anyone using my name as any kind of endorsement or support for their position, product, etc. is doing so erroneously and without my permission.

With Gratitude for your Understanding,
Gary

Gary’s above email indicated clearly that his vision was not of an EFT that was in one person’s or group’s hands.  As a result of this understanding, we were able to move forward to create a highly productive and democratic meeting in which we discussed what truly might be the best possible quality standardized training.

What happened at Santa Rosa?

Our group discussion addressed the issue of quality affordable training and recognized certification for EFT, including, in the future, the development of an EFT Master level certification program.

We looked at many versions of this possibility that are currently in place,  either in development or already established. (ACEP, MTT, AAMET, EFT Universe and others.) We unanimously voted not to align with any single person’s certification program, but to work towards some kind of democratic association.

Many of us were familiar with AAMET (Association for the Advancement of Meridian Energy Techniques) and its hard work over the years in developing standardized EFT training. AAMET representatives then graciously allowed the group to evaluate their competencies and syllabuses in hopes to achieve worldwide standardization and ensure quality.  The group formulated 3 main goals for the 3 days we were in Santa Rosa.

  1. To establish agreement upon EFT Levels 1 and 2 Certification syllabuses and to agree on the required core competencies.
  2. To formulate a plan for an organization led “by the people for the people” to carry out training and certification.
  3. To outline a letter of intention explaining how we have arrived at these decisions, and inviting all EFT followers and enthusiasts to join with us.

Brief History of EFT Certification

As most of you know, the first EFT certificates were created by Dr. Patricia Carrington.  She had designed online tests based upon the candidate’s having viewed the first of Gary’s EFT DVD’s, which tests they had to pass in order to qualify for a certificate of completion (not competency).  The designation was either EFT-CC or EFT-ADV, depending upon the level of the test that was passed.

Later, Gary Craig and Ann Adams created EFT Level Workshop Guidelines and the EFT Master program which was based on an evaluation of practitioner competency as well as knowledge of EFT. When Gary withdrew his support of both the EFT-CC / EFT-ADV Certificate program and his support of his former guidelines and the Master’s Program, he then created another academic (online test) certification, with the designations of Cert I, Cert II, and Cert Honors – these, too, were dissolved when Gary retired from his leadership post in EFT.

In seeking freedom to explore a more inclusive vision, we strongly desire to honor the practitioners who have invested time, energy and money in attaining those former certificates and certifications, while at the same time we need to ensure that a newly created or existing certification body will have the stamina and flexibility to carry us into the coming era of EFT.

Future of EFT Certification

In our deliberations on this we realized that trying to create (from the ground up) a new infrastructure with an entirely new certification board, new committees, new legal format and to fill new leadership roles would require an immense  expenditure of time, energy, commitment, and money, and would, in fact, be an almost impossible task.

Fortunately, Helena Fone, Chairperson for AAMET (www.AAMET.org) along with other AAMET members from the UK and US were in attendance at this meeting. The AAMET has been operating successfully for a decade around the world.  The AAMET has been registered in Malta as a Voluntary Organization with a legal Statute and as such is required to operate on a lawful, not-for-profit-basis. The Association has been set up to promote ethical practice, to support its members, and to forge links with professional organizations. All EFT Practitioners and Trainers registered on their website have their qualifications validated and are required to sign up to mandatory CPD & Mentoring as well as to agreeing to abide by the AAMET’s Code of Conduct and Ethics and Training Guidelines. Particularly impressive is the fact that the AAMET Training Team has devoted the last two years to painstakingly simplifying and clarifying a very high level EFT certification and assessment process.

AAMET has shared their full curriculum for all levels with our group. Their curriculum was developed from Gary’s original training guidelines as well as from additional input from many experienced EFT trainers. In addition, an EFT Master designation has been up for discussion within AAMET’s training committee and appears to be on its way to approval and design – an exciting development! Also, many of the group gathered at Santa Rosa are now planning on volunteering for various AAMET committees.

For two full days we reviewed the AAMET syllabus and competency requirements for EFT Levels 1 and 2, line by line, suggesting wording and other modifications that would help the quality of the syllabus and competencies.  After a comprehensive review of the guidelines we voted unanimously (there was 100% agreement) that AAMET be accepted as the model for worldwide certification in EFT.

This decision was easily arrived at after we had studied what AAMET has to offer –– a stable, existing, and respected democratic organization with quality guidelines for EFT training. We all agreed that training guidelines and EFT certification should reside within a democratic group in which ALL members have the opportunity for feedback.

We acknowledged that joining AAMET as individuals would support quality training and certifications and also answer our concerns about putting the certification power into the hands of any one person within the EFT community no matter how huge their list may be.

AAMET funds the web site and program not by charging for training but by membership fees. Individuals may join AAMET on a variety of membership levels depending upon their role with EFT. There is NO requirement to join AAMET to receive training or certification. However, ALL Practitioners and Trainers MUST join the AAMET, sign the codes of conduct and adhere to their certification policy before they claim to be an AAMET Practitioner or Trainer.

We then moved on to discussing how we can help the EFT community come together and how we can possibly facilitate this in an open, supportive method. After much discussion, we agreed to put together a website where EFTers can find more information on where to turn for quality education – a portal to all the wonderful work that others have already achieved, as well as new developments. We are calling this portal EFT United.

As a member of AAMET and a part of the www.EFTUnited.com community, practitioners will now be plugged into a far-reaching network of “EFT”, led “by the people and for the people.”  This is not a small task and we hope to receive input as we find what our community needs.

In summary we agree that we, as representatives of the community

  • Accept and acknowledge our support of AAMET as the certification body of EFT worldwide
  • Accept and acknowledge the existing AAMET EFT Certification for practitioner and trainers
  • Will actively participate in AMMET’s decision-making process by becoming committee members.

At the conclusion of our meeting on Sunday evening, we were amazed that we had accomplished all our stated goals with 20 minutes to spare! There was a mood of great relief and celebration.

We accomplished much in our 3 days but this is only a beginning.  AAMET EFT certification is well established and we can rely on that standardized quality training, but there will be many questions and we are dedicated to your input for the development of a supported EFT community for the people and by the people.
